These pictures were taken on a family vacation to Yosemite in May of 2016 using a Nikon D3300 and Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 lens. I originally processed them in color with mixed results and recently decided to reprocess them using the Adobe Monochrome Profile available in version 7.3 of Lightroom Classic CC. After applying the new profile, processing was pretty straightforward with some lighting/tonal adjustments and some dodging and burning. The last image was similarly processed only using the new Adobe Color Profile because pictures of rainbows just don’t work very well in black & white… The locations are popular tourist spots and they were mostly taken in the middle of the day (it was cloudy/rainy most of the time which helped), but I’m still pretty pleased with how they turned out. Like my friend Kenton Steryous says, It’s pretty hard to take a bad picture in Yosemite!
Some tips if you ever visit Yosemite:
- May is a great time to go because the snow melt feeds the waterfalls.
- Memorial Day weekend isn’t the best choice….
- Plan way ahead and stay in the park if possible. Getting in and out of the park is a big problem and will waste allot of your time. The traffic may not be quite as bad if you follow tip #2 above.
