The Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial was Dedicated to Veterans of all wars on Veterans Day, November 11, 2011. The park is composed of several different memorials honoring the many veterans from north Alabama that have served our country.

These images are of the “Sacrifice” memorial depicting two soldiers pulling their fallen comrade to safety.  Of interest about this memorial is how it transcends time as one of the soldiers fought in Vietnam while the other two fought in Iraq.

The first photo was taken from the rear of the memorial at sunset to evoke the feeling of the soldiers pulling their fallen comrade from darkness and danger to the light and safety of the city.

The second photo is taken from the front of the memorial allowing a view of the two soldiers faces as well as some of the surrounding park.

The marker on the memorial reads:  “The Sacrifice Statue reminds us of the human sacrifice paid for freedom. The water that flows into the Sacrifice Pool represents the blood spilled by millions of our servicemen and women. The statue reflects the willingness to sacrifice self for country, save a fallen comrade and leave no one behind. The three soldiers are Madison County war veterans. On the left is Sergeant Everett L. Carter, Sr., an airborne infantryman who fought in Vietnam in the 1960s. The wounded soldier in the center is Sergeant Hubble Hainline, who was severely wounded during the Iraq war. On the right is Sergeant Jessica Newey Carter, who was also wounded in Iraq. Both Sergeant Hainline and Carter served in the Alabama National Guard in Huntsville.”
